More about The SUN


  1. The Solar System comprises the sun together with all the planets and other bodies directly or indirectly revolving round it.
  2. Solar system as we call it here SS includes nine planets along with the satellites that travel around the planets.
  3. SS is 33,000 light year from the  centre of the Galaxy.
  4. The revolution of  the SS around the centre of the Milky way is called Cosmic year.
  5. The SUN is one among the 100 billion stars in the giant spiral Galaxy,called the Milky way.
  6. The SUN is a shining spherical heavenly body around which the planets rotate.
  7. The glowing surface of the SUN which we see is called photosphere.Above this is the chromosphere.Beyond Chromosphere is the magnificent corona of the SUN which is visible during eclipses.
  8. At the Core of the SUN the temperature is around 15 million degrees k.
  9. The weight of the SUN is 33 lakh times heavier than the Earth's weight.
  10. Diameter of the SUN is 1384000 km.
  11. Rotation on its axis (at the Equator) 25.38 days.
  12. Rotation on its axis (near the poles) 33 days.
